Having nostrils that are “too wide” is a common complaint for many men and women, particularly among individuals of African-American and Southeast Asian descent.
Is an alar base reduction right for you?
When men and women are unhappy with the entire appearance of their nose, they typically undergo a full rhinoplasty procedure, which is designed to sculpt, reshape and resize the nose until your ideal look has been achieved. However, if your only complaint is that your nostrils are too wide, an alar base reduction – which is a much smaller and less intensive procedure – may be ideal. To qualify for this procedure, you should be in good overall health and possess realistic expectations for what an alar base reduction can accomplish. As it exclusively focuses on the nostrils, it won’t change the shape of the rest of your nose or drastically alter your facial appearance.
You’ll still look like you – your nostrils will just be less prominent. During your initial consultation with Dr. Lee, she will help you determine whether or not this procedure is in your best interest and can accomplish your precise cosmetic objectives.
In the event that an alar base reduction is not an appropriate procedure, Dr. Lee offers several other ethnic rhinoplasty procedures. Those are:
- Asian Rhinoplasty
- African-American Rhinoplasty
- Middle-Eastern Rhinoplasty
- Hispanic & Latin Rhinoplasty
