Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical procedure that exfoliates your skin, using fine crystals, along with a controlled vacuum device, without the application of incisions.
About the Procedure
First, your skin is thoroughly cleansed and toned. This is followed up with a smooth stream of aluminum oxide crystals, which are poured over sections of the face. The crystals lightly polish away old, dead skin cells, which the vacuum then picks up with light, gentle suction. Microdermabrasion advocates the development of new skin cells, through the action of stimulating fibroblasts, which are the cells within your tissue that alert the body to produce collagen and elastin.
You will see an immediate difference in the overall look and feel of your skin after your microdermabrasion treatment. However, if you wish to reach optimum results, it is recommended that you come in for multiple treatments over the course of several weeks. The exact number of microdermabrasion treatments needed is based on the individual patient and the condition of his or her skin. On average, you can expect anything from five to six treatments.
