Facial Plastic Surgery

Beverly Hills

In the past, hair transplant procedures were known for administering clustered, unnatural-looking hair. Today’s hair transplant techniques have evolved into highly refined procedures that use much smaller implants that produce uniform, natural-looking hair in areas that otherwise may appear sparse. By using these cutting-edge techniques, Dr. Lee has the ability to deliver among the best hair transplant Beverly Hills has available. Dr. Lee takes great pleasure in being able to help her patients regain a sense of confidence in their appearance.

How Does a Hair Transplant Work?

A typical hair consists of the shaft, which is the part you can see above the skin, and the hair follicle beneath the surface. Hair tends to grow in small bunches or areas, which are called follicular units. A follicular unit consists of approximately 1-4 hair follicles with full-sized hairs. Each follicular unit can be seen as an independent structure when viewed with a microscope. These follicular units appear as a tiny grouping of hairs.

Hair transplants relocate intact follicular units from a safe donor region, usually at the back and sides of the head to the balding or thinning areas. The follicles that are carefully harvested from said donor areas are not genetically prone to go bald. Once these hair follicles have been successfully transplanted, they shall continue to produce hair throughout the patient’s lifetime.

Recovery

You should be able to return to work and most normal activities the day after your procedure. That being said, you should avoid any strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for the first 7 to 12 days, at which time any non-absorbable sutures will have been removed. As the treated areas begin to heal, some crusts may develop at the base of the grafts. After several days these can be gently removed when washing your hair. Most transplanted hairs will shed between 2 to 4 weeks after surgery, however, the follicles will remain. Hair transplants may require as long as 3 to 5 months to begin growing and will continue to improve over 12 to 15 months after your surgery.

You may require several hair transplant procedures, depending on the degree of hair loss and coverage desired. Follow-up procedures are generally performed eight months after your first procedure, once the implants are flourishing. Some of the hairs surrounding the transplant may continue to be lost, in which case a future hair transplant may be recommended to maintain uniform coverage.
